Troubleshooting RGB/RGBW Products

This page is a comprehensive troubleshooting guide, detailing a step-by-step checklist to diagnose and resolve issues with RGB/RGBW products, including Bluetooth and handheld controllers, LED drivers, and LED products. It provides clear instructions on identifying and fixing problems, along with advice on when to contact customer support for warranty assistance.

Troubleshooting Checklist overview

Before beginning any troubleshooting, please be sure to review our wiring guide to see an overview of how the system works and confirm that your product is wired correctly. If you are experiencing issues with your multicolor LED lights, please follow these troubleshooting steps:

1. Check the power supply: Make sure that the power supply is functioning properly. If the power supply is not providing enough power, this can cause flickering or dimming of individual colors. Check the power and ground source to the controller to ensure you are getting proper power or ground.

2. Check the connections: Ensure that all connections are secure and properly plugged in. Loose connections can cause flickering or dimming of individual colors.

3. Check for damaged wires: Look for any signs of damage to the wires. Damaged wires can cause the lights to malfunction. Check any inline fuses to see if they are blown (usually found on the red positive of the controller or wiring harness)

3. Ensure the product wired correctly: review our wiring guide. Most but not all RGBW Products have LED Drivers. The LED Driver is hooked up between the LED product and Bluetooth Controller. Some LED Drivers will have a ground wire on them, make sure this is correctly grounded.

4. Swap outputs on the controller and swap drivers (for example, swap drivers' side and passengers side drivers on the identical product) to pinpoint the issue and determine if the problem is the product, driver, or some of the outputs on the controller.

Check the color settings on Bluetooth app: Verify that the color settings are set correctly. If the settings are incorrect, this can cause the wrong colors to display, or no color at all. You should not have to change color settings on the app. whatever the default setting are should be correct. Please reach out if you need help finding that setting.

Reset the lights/app: If none of the above steps work, try resetting the lights but cutting power and then re-powering or if using the Bluetooth app closing out the app in the background on your phone and turning Bluetooth off then back on. If none of these steps resolve your issue, please contact our customer support team for further assistance.

Troubleshooting Bluetooth app issues

  • Turn off Bluetooth on your phone, uninstall and reinstall the app, and try to connect to the logo again
  • Ensure the ground source is clean and connected directly to unpainted metal. We recommend connecting the ground wire to the same location the battery is grounded to
  • Try a different power source. Sometimes a fuse taps won't reach far enough into the fuse, or the wire won't provide enough power, so try connecting the logo directly to the battery with an inline fuse
  • Check the led setting within the app
  • Make sure the lights are switched to the "on" position in the app
  • Make sure that the bottom slider on the app control is turned all the way down
  • Make sure that the top slider on the app control is turned all the way up
  • Try using a different phone/device to connect to the logo
  • Disconnect the logo from power then re-power

Components breakdown (actual components will vary)

Remotes & Controllers – RGB Halo Kits

1. Bluetooth Controller

How to Connect in App.

For the RGBW Bluetooth controller, you must connect within 45 seconds of powering the controller in the app. The app may vary based on the product. Suppose you miss the 45-second window (then cut the power but disconnect the terminal or if there is an inline fuse on the positive red wire, you can pull this out and reinsert to connect). Also, please make sure you have your Bluetooth turned on, on your phone or mobile device.

How to Tell if You Have a Bad Bluetooth Unit

After making sure you are getting proper power to the Bluetooth controller and having a good positive and ground connection. You should have an excellent strong connection within the app anywhere within 30ft of the Bluetooth device.

Here are Some Other Signs You Have a Bad Bluetooth Unit

  • Phone will only connect within a few feet of the controller instead of a wide range.
  • You have Check the 10amp inline fuse on the positive of the controller and confirmed working, but device won't pop up in the app.
  • Phone won't connect within 45 seconds of resetting power - error message keeps popping up
  • If all products hooked up the controller all have the same issue (i.e. green color not working/ lights get stuck on color blue, purple color not working) this is likely also sign of a faulty Bluetooth controller.

How to fix

Please reach out to support and let us know that you have completed the RGB Halo kits troubleshooting guide and that you have determined the issue to be the Bluetooth controller. When reaching out please provide your order number and a picture of the controller.

2. LED Driver

What is an LED driver (not all products will have led drivers)

The LED driver regulates voltage going into the LED product and is required for most halo kits and DRL boards and well as some other RGBW products. If an item includes an LED driver it is important not to bypass the LED driver and by connecting the LED unit straight into the Bluetooth controller, this will result in instant LED failure. Lastly, please ensure the product is hooked up to the correct corresponding LED Driver, and the LED Driver is hooked up to the Bluetooth Controller

How to tell if you may have a bad LED driver:

  • The LED driver is usually the least problematic component in the system and is it very uncommon to have issues with these.
  •  However, if you have an item that is doing one of the following this could be a driver issue:
    • Color not showing vibrant on one of the products
    • Color is not matching up or some of the colors not working on 1 of the products

How to fix

To troubleshoot a driver issue, swap drivers or swap driver connections if two LED products use the same driver (only swap drivers if you have multiple drivers of same product) simply swap the driver with another equal driver on the opposing headlight.  If the issue persists after swapping the led driver then the issue is not the LED driver and is likely the LED unit itself.  If the issue is fixed after swapping the drivers, then you now have a confirmed faulty driver.

Please reach out to support for warranty and let us know that you have completed the RGB Halo Kits troubleshooting guide and that you have determined the issue to be the LED driver. When reaching out please provide your order number and a picture of the LED driver.

3. LED Product

(ex. halo kit or DRL boards, etc.)  PICTURES_OF_DRL_BOARDS___HALOS_.png

How to tell if you have a bad Led product:

Please factor out the Controller and Driver first by following the other troubleshooting guides for these components.  Here are some signs you have a bad LED product.

  • Some LED’s missing in the halo, strip, or DRL board.
  • LED products won't cut on at all (rare) usually when defective item will cut on but display missing LEDs or flickering.
  • LED product colors not matching or some of the colors on a product not working all of a sudden after working correctly for some time.

How to fix

Please reach out to support for warranty and let us know that you have completed the RGB Halo kits troubleshooting guide and that you have determined the issue to be the LED Unit Itself. When reaching out please provide your order number and a picture of the product fault.
