M8 and JST describe connector styles used on different RGB Halo Kits product versions. An adapter can connect an approved product/controller combination with different plugs. It does not convert voltage or change RGBW lighting into Flow Series.
Identify both ends first
Check the connector on the light and the connector on the controller. M8 connections use a screw-lock collar; older JST connections use a different plug style. Also identify the product’s LED type, voltage and required driver. Do not choose an adapter only by appearance or wire count.
Choose the correct adapter direction
- JST product to M8 controller adapter: for an approved older JST product connecting to a matching M8 controller.
- M8 product to JST controller adapter: for an approved M8 product connecting to a matching older JST controller.
Confirm the variant and intended LED system on the adapter listing. The two directions are not interchangeable.
What an adapter does not do
It does not make a 5V LED safe on a 12V output, allow RGBW lights to run on a Flow controller, increase controller capacity, or eliminate a required driver. Some kits use M6, M12 or other dedicated connectors and need their own controller.
Before connecting power
Disconnect power before changing plugs. Fully seat compatible connectors and secure their locking collars as instructed. Check the weather-protection requirements for every connection and component, including any older equipment retained in the installation.
