You may be able to install a halo kit yourself if you are comfortable with the work required by your specific headlights. The key question is whether the project involves opening and resealing the housing, mounting the rings and wiring a separate lighting system.
A halo kit is a set of lighting components. It is different from a complete prebuilt headlight assembly. Start by checking which product you are buying.
What a halo installation can involve
- Removing the headlights. Some vehicles require additional trim or bumper removal to reach the mounting points.
- Accessing the inside of the housing. Sealants and housing designs differ. Do not assume one heating or opening method suits every headlight.
- Positioning and mounting the rings. Confirm clearance, placement and wire routing before securing them.
- Connecting the lighting system. Follow the kit’s diagram, including its required controller and any drivers or regulators.
- Testing and resealing. Check operation before closing the housing, then complete the housing-specific sealing and installation process.
When DIY may make sense
Read the full guide for your vehicle and kit before ordering. A DIY project is easier to plan when you understand the access steps, have the required tools and workspace, and can leave the vehicle out of service while the work is completed. Experience removing trim does not automatically prepare you to open and reseal a headlight.
When to use an installer
Consider a professional if the opening method is unclear, the housing is difficult to service, or wiring and resealing are outside your experience. Ask the shop whether it has worked on your headlight type and whether its quote covers opening, mounting, wiring, testing and resealing.
Use our nationwide installer directory as a starting point. Contact the shop before buying to confirm it accepts customer-supplied kits and can install the exact product.
Five checks before you buy
- Match the kit to your vehicle and headlight housing.
- For universal rings, confirm the required size and physical clearance.
- Choose the lighting effect you want: RGB, RGBW or Flow Series.
- Read the contents list and confirm any controller or accessories you need.
- Choose your installation route and account for labor and supplies.
If you want the internal lighting work completed in advance, compare prebuilt headlights. If you are unsure about fitment, contact our support team with vehicle details and photos before ordering.
Use the right technical guide
