Lighting Guides: Start Here

A starlight headliner kit creates illuminated star points using fiber optic strands routed through your headliner to a light engine. Choosing a kit means deciding how many stars you want, which effects you want and how you will install it.

Choose your star count and effects

The RGBW Twinkle Starlight Headliner Kit currently offers three configurations:

Configuration Main stars Effects
650 Stars 650 main fibers Twinkle
1,000 Stars 1,000 main fibers Twinkle
1,000 Stars + Shooting Star 1,000 main fibers plus 180 separate shooting-star fibers Twinkle and shooting-star animation

The 650-star option is a starting point for smaller interiors such as coupes and sedans. The 1,000-star option suits larger roofs or a denser layout. Your usable headliner area, sunroof and preferred spacing matter as much as the vehicle category. More fibers also mean more points to place during installation.

Twinkle and shooting stars are different

Twinkle creates a changing star-like appearance in the main lighting. Shooting stars use a separate set of fibers to create a moving trail. All three current configurations include twinkle; only the Shooting Star configuration includes the additional effect and fibers.

The shooting-star fibers illuminate white. The main RGBW starlight bundle provides the selectable color effect. A colorful main star field does not mean the separate shooting-star trails change color. Check the demonstration and selected option rather than assuming every effect in a photo is included with every kit.

Controls and included components

These kits use the MySmartLED app and include a handheld RF remote. Use the app specified for this kit when setting it up. The product listing includes the light engine, fiber bundle, power cable, wire glands, poke tool and install guide; the shooting-star version adds the separate fibers.

The listed fiber length is approximately 3 meters, or 10 feet. Plan the light-engine location and route to the farthest star before making holes. Use the current product page to confirm specifications and contents for the configuration you order.

Plan the installation before removing the headliner

This is a custom installation into your existing headliner, not a replacement headliner panel. The project involves access to the headliner, planning a pattern, feeding and securing fibers, mounting the light engine and connecting power. Confirm clearances and routing around the vehicle’s existing equipment before starting.

Read the Pro RGBW Starlight installation guide first. Test the light engine, controls, main bundle and any shooting-star fibers before reinstalling the headliner. Keep fibers from being pinched when panels go back into place.

Before ordering, settle on your star count, confirm whether you want shooting stars and choose your installer or DIY plan. If you need help matching the effect to an option, contact our support team before purchasing.
