Before you start the installation process, it's important to test the kit. Additionally, make sure the areas where the LED strips will be attached are clean. This includes cleaning the underside of both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side skirts. You can use a microfiber with alcohol to gently remove any dirt or mud residue, ensuring where the LED strips will adhere remains clean. If you have access to a hydraulic jack, it can greatly improve efficiency by providing better access to the vehicle's underside. However, if you don't have a jack, you can still proceed with the installation.
Drilling Pilot Holes for Mounting:
Before attaching the underglow lights, consider drilling pilot holes for mounting. Pilot holes serve as guides for screws or bolts, providing a secure anchor point for the lights. Choose a drill bit size slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws or bolts to ensure a snug fit. Be sure to select appropriate locations for drilling to avoid interference with the vehicle's structure or wiring.
Spacing Holders:
To maintain consistent spacing and alignment of the underglow lights, consider using spacing holders during installation. Spacing holders can be small, temporary fixtures placed between the vehicle body and the lights to ensure even placement. This helps achieve a uniform and aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Having a friend assist you in holding the LED strip during attachment can be helpful. However, if you're working alone, you can temporarily mount the LED strip in place using painters tape before permanently securing it.
While adhesive tape may be convenient for temporary installations, it's not always the most reliable option for long-term use. Avoid relying solely on adhesive tape to secure the underglow lights, especially in areas prone to moisture, heat, or vibration. Instead, prioritize mechanical fastening methods such as the mounting brackets included for added durability and stability.
Finalizing the installation involves tucking and securing wires neatly to ensure a clean and professional appearance. Utilize hardware such as clips or brackets to secure wires along the vehicle's frame or underside, keeping them away from moving parts or areas of potential damage. Additionally, use zip ties to provide additional support and organization, bundling wires together and securing them in place. This not only enhances the aesthetics of the installation but also helps prevent wire damage or interference with vehicle components.
Option for trunk-mounted controllers: Installing a grommet provides a neat and protected pathway for the wires, preventing them from being damaged by sharp edges or rubbing against the vehicle's body. Simply select an appropriate-sized grommet, cut a hole in the trunk wall, and insert the grommet. This ensures a tidy and professional-looking installation while safeguarding the wires from potential wear and tear.
